Notes from the Importer: Beneficio San Diego, Costa Rica’s most innovative and largest private mill, acquired Montano Micro Mill with a plan to take experimentation to the next level. Montano is led by Juan Ramon, a local producer with a strong reputation for high quality. Under his direction and with Volcafe support, Montano is set to become a high-powered lab where research towards new processes can thrive.
Why is it called “Jaguar Anaerobic?”: Volcafe (the importer) and Funación Pro Zoológicos have partnered to preserve Panthera onca, an endangered jaguar species in Costa Rica that holds cultural significance in indigenous mysticism. The current population is estimated at less than 15,000 jaguars left in the wild. For every quintal (around 100lbs) of this coffee sold, $1 will be donated to Funación Pro Zoológicos for their efforts to conserve the critical big cats. You can learn more by visiting the Funación Pro Zoológicos YouTube channel HERE. Their page is in Spanish, FYI!
More About the Exotic Bean Juice Club
I’ve been working with my importers to find and bring in some of the most remote and hard to reach coffee growing regions in the world. These coffees are only available in small amounts, 25-50 lbs, vs the traditional bag size of 132 or 156 lbs. It’s also a great way to support smaller coffee producers who may not get as much exposure or sales as other, larger coffee producers who have better access to funding, production equipment, freight and logistics.
It’s also a great way to get this coffee to you, bean juice drinker! A calendar will be published soon with upcoming releases, and this page will be updated each month to reflect
All new subscribers to the Exotic Bean Juice Club who sign up after the 1st but before the 15th of the month will receive that month’s Exotic offering. Folks who sign up after the 15th will receive the next month’s Exotic offering, on the 1st.
